Everyone has their own story how they got to dancing. How did you get to dancing, what or who brought you to it? It may be interesting to see how everyone got to their dancing, or if you have an interesting story to share? :)

Going back many many many years ago Old Time dancing was a class we had to take weekly in school. I enjoyed it so much that i starting going to classes outside school and hey presto dancing became part of my life for a long time. And it was all thanks to a wonderful teacher Mrs Carmel Carpenter :) who taught the class in school and whose school of dance i also went to. She was brilliant.

I got into dancing really late in life,,,, at 42!
It was January 2007 and Mrs Moonriver said that we needed a joint hobby or interest because our sons were getting to a point where they didn't need us and if we weren't careful we'd be bored with life. I said we should both think about ideas and try a few to see what we liked. To be honest I was far too busy at work to even come up with my own ideas. One evening Mrs Moonriver announced that we were going out dancing, I thought she meant night-clubbing and protested that I was past all that but she said "No Ballroom dancing, we both enjoy strictly and you thought Mark Ramprakash and Darren Gough did a good enough job for normal blokes....." Tentatively we went to our first lesson, I thought it was going to be a class and that I'd embarrass myself stumbling over Mrs M's feet but I was pleased when we got to The Studio and found that it was a private lesson. Our first lesson was with Lynda Mitchinson and she taught us a nice basic Waltz, a bit of Foxtrot and showed us some moves for next weeks lesson if we were still interested. I have to admit it I thoroughly enjoyed it and immediately said yes book us in.
I thought we were just learning for social dancing but later in 2007 after we had been moved to Peter Mitchinson we were told that we would be competing at Scarborough Dance Festival in the November. I think we were shell shocked but just went with the flow and on the competition day we actually won our grade. From then on we have been hooked and compete every month.
